Day trip to Nara!
Been meaning to visit Nara for a couple of months now, and I made it with on seemingly the last day of good weather before I leave the Kansai region!
So Nara (奈良) is famous for it’s deer, and pretty much as soon as you leave the train station you’ll see them, just milling about waiting for unsuspecting tourists to feed them 鹿せんべい (shika senbei) or ‘deer biscuits’ (note: does not contain deer). So they’ll remain a constant theme throughout these photos.
Also there’s been some news stories in the past few months about them having to put up signs cautioning tourists that the deer may bite if you tease them with food or whatever. Based on what I saw, the deer were super chilled, the problem was (as always I guess) the people.
Anyway, first stop:
Nara Park (奈良公園)
And now time for a leisurely stroll through Nara Park (奈良公園) which is a pretty big national park, in which there are countless temples, shrines, museums and whatnot.
Nara park is absolutely lovely, especially on a scorchingly hot + humid summer’s day, just being able to stroll through a chill wooded area is fantastic.
So like, for the next lot of photos it’s not like I left Nara Park – I think everything from now on is in the park, or at least tangentially attached to it.
Anyway, that’s already been loads of photos, next time: more photos of deer.
edit: Aaand after like a month(ish) I realised I forgot to update the map, so here we are:
